The Lions began the season by hosting York, Lake Forest and Sandburg on Friday. LT went 1-2 with a win over Lake Forest (25-17, 25-19) and losses to York (10-25, 19-25) and Sandburg (19-25, 22-25).
The Bulldogs dropped the first match of the season to Nazareth 7-25, 9-25 on Sept. 3. Amanda Lelivelt and Kayla Noffsinger had two kills each for the Bulldogs and Monica Kasper had six digs.
The Mustangs fell to 1-2 with a 13-25, 20-25 loss to Fenton on Thursday.
After knocking off Riverside Brookfield 25-7, 25-9 with 12 kills from Samantha Brown and seven from Julia Saunders, the Roadrunners went 5-0 to win the Champaign Centennial Invite on Saturday. Nazareth swept four opponents to get to the final against the hosts. In the final the Roadrunners won 25-17, 23-25, 18-16.
BOYS CROSS COUNTRY
Henry Hostettler's fourth place finish helped the Lions place third at the 12-team Lions Pride Invitational on Saturday. Hostettler finished in 15:16.76. James Ryan was 11th.
Jack Faje was RB's top finisher at the Lions Pride Invitational. Faje was 27th to help the Bulldogs take eighth out of 12 teams.
Salvatore Flight led the way for the Friars at the Fenton Early Bird Invitational with a sixth place finish. Fenwick was 13th out of 19 teams.
GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY
Lexy Rudolfski led the charge for the Lions at the season opening Lions Pride Invitational on Saturday. Rudolfski was fourth followed by teammate Katie Hamor, who placed fifth. Hannah Dutler and Elaine Smith also cracked the top 10 and LT won the 11-team invite.
Mailin Struck has made a quick impression for the Bulldogs. Struck, a junior exchange student from Germany, has won both meets RB has participated in this season. The latest victory came at Saturday's Lions Pride Invitational in Western Springs. Struck ran a time of 16:50.22, faster than the state winning Class 2A time from last fall. Sarah Melone was 14th in the 11-team meet. RB was sixth in the team standings.
The Roadrunners placed seventh out of 11 teams at the Lions Pride Invitational. Claire Ramsey was Naz's top runner, coming in 27th.
Olivia Ryan was third in the Fenton Early Bird Invitational on Saturday with a time of 18:03.7. She helped the Friars placed sixth in the 22-team field.
Dan Hudson's one-under-par 71 helped LT place second in the Batavia Invitational on Saturday. The Lions shot a 301 to finish behind only Hinsdale Central's 286 in a loaded field. Junior Mike Caplice shot a 75 to also place in the top 10.
Austin Adamec was the medalist in both of RB's matches last week. Adamec shot a 40 in a 177-259 win over St. Joseph and a 35 in a 160-181 loss to Nazareth.
Mike Kadela was the medalist with a season low score of 43 in a 181-191 win over Elmwood Park on Sept. 4.
The Lions beat Glenbard West 167-186 on Sept. 4 to improve to 2-0 in West Suburban Silver dual meets.
The Lions won their own quad on Saturday with 5-0 sweeps of Glenbard North and Latin and a 4-1 win over Homewood-Flossmoor.
RB swept Morton 7-0 on Thursday to pick up a third straight win over a West Suburban Gold opponent. The Bulldogs beat Willowbrook 4-2 and Addison Trail 7-0 earlier this season.
The Friars swept the Roadrunners 5-0 in a dual on Thursday.
The Panthers picked up a 7-0 win over district rival Proviso East on Thursday.
