Nazareth, Fenwick win big; Proviso W. notches 1st win

Nazareth 51, Julian 0

The Roadrunners got on the scoreboard frequently and scored 44 points in the first half of this rout.

Freshman Ivory Kelly-Martin had two touchdowns, including a 63-yard run on the first play of the game. Touchdowns from Michael Masterson and Jack Dolan, on an interception return, expanded the lead to 21-0 in the first quarter.

Nazareth improved to 2-0 before starting East Suburban Catholic Conference play with a game at Marist on Friday. Marist is 1-1 after splitting games with St. Rita and Brother Rice.

Fenwick 32, Bishop Lynch 14

Fenwick traveled to Dallas to take on a school that shares much in common with it. Both schools are Friars and share colors, fight songs and Dominican heritage.

Fenwick spoiled Bishop Lynch’s 50th anniversary with a 32-14 victory. Robert Spillane led Oak Park’s Friars with 220 yards rushing and three touchdowns. Gino Cavalieri passed for two touchdowns, both to Ryan Smith.

Fenwick now is 2-0 and will play at Brother Rice in a Chicago Catholic League crossover Friday.

Proviso West 19, Downers Grove South 12

The Panthers picked up the first win of the season by ousting visiting Downers Grove South in a West Suburban Conference crossover.

West (1-1) put the Mustangs in an early 0-2 hole ahead of Week 3’s West Suburban Silver opener against 2-0 Oak Park River Forest.

Leo 47, St. Joseph 0

The Chargers fell to 0-2 with a loss to Leo in a Chicago Catholic League Red opener. St. Joseph has yet to score in two games and will take on Elmwood Park on Friday.
