WESTERN SPRINGS – More than 100 veterans and first responders enjoyed a steak meal at the Rotary Club of Western Springs’ annual Steak Fry on Friday.
Steaks from Casey’s Market sizzled on the grill as veterans, first responders and other community members filed through a line for steak, potatoes, green beans and other sides and desserts.
Overall, more than 200 steaks were grilled for all in attendance. The event has been going on about 20 years, and the Rotary Club took over in 1999.
“This is a great meal. You can’t beat a steak fry,” said Bernie Stegmueller of Willow Springs, commander of Illinois’ American Legion, which had a number of members at the event.
Veterans from several wars, including World War II and the Vietnam and Korean wars, were in attendance. Rotary Club members and other residents are able to purchase meals for the veterans and first responders. More than 50 members from other area Rotary Clubs also attended the event.
