Bloomingdale Garden Club turns 50 years old

BLOOMINGDALE – The Bloomingdale Garden Club will celebrate its 50th anniversary in October, according to a news release from the organization.

The club was founded April 19, 1963 and its members applied for charter membership to the Garden Clubs of Illinois on Oct. 22 of the same year, the release said.

Today, the club has almost 50 members, some of whom have been involved with the organization for the majority of its existence, according to the release.

The club hosts monthly gatherings at the Bloomingdale Police Department. It is funded by the profits from its annual plant sale, which will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.. Sept. 28 at the Park District Maintenance Buidling in Springfield Park, the release said.

The organization is also philanthropically involved with several local institutions, such as the DuPage Convalescent Center, DuPage PADS, Heifer International, the Bloomingdale School District 13 Education Foundation and the Bloomingdale VFW, according to the release.
