CICERO – A woman was robbed of her cellphone in the 1900 block of South 49th Court on Aug. 31.

The woman said two men on bicycles rode up, struck her on the back with their fists and then struggled with her for her cellphone. Thee suspects then fled southbound on 49th Court.

Cicero police reported they believe the incident was part of a pattern that developed over a string of strong-arm robberies committed by black male subjects on bicycles over the past several weeks. One of the offenders has been described as having dreadlocks with blonde highlights.

At least one incident is being investigated as an armed robbery after the victim was struck on the head with a bottle.

In a number of incidents, victims have been punched in the head from behind before offenders take the cellphones. The latest incident occurred Sept. 1 in the 2300 block of South Cicero Avenue. A woman was waiting for a bus and talking on her cellphone when a man on a bicycle grabbed the phone from her and fled southbound on Cicero Avenue.

Police said the targets seem to be people who are using a cellphone at the time. Detectives have developed information that they are following up on.

Anyone with information or looking for information is asked to call Cicero’s Detective Division at 708-652-213
