Village of Lombard prepares for annual recycling drive
LOMBARD – Residents should start cleaning out closets, garages and junk drawers to gather old, broken and unwanted items for the Village of Lombard's annual Recycling Extravaganza scheduled to run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 21 at Village Hall.
Items that cannot be collected during weekly recycling pick-up are being accepted for recycling at this drive. These include electronics, car and marine batteries, scrap metal and books.
Local community organizations will also be involved in the extravaganza to collect other materials. Goodwill Industries will accept clothes donations, FamilyShelter Services is collecting used cell phones and accessories, Lions Club will accept eye glasses, hearing aids and old, metal keys; Glenbard East Ecology Club will collect indoor and outdoor flower pots, Rotary Club will accept bicycles, crutches, non-motorized wheel chairs and used shoes and the VFW will accept damaged American flags.
Items that cannot be recycled are household batteries, wood materials, furniture, household hazardous waste, drywall, plaster, particle board, propane or pressurized tanks, Freon appliances, engine parts and tires.
