Weekend watch: Glenbard East, Montini try go to 2-0 on the road

Published: Friday, Sept. 6, 2013 1:50 p.m. CDT

Glenbard East at Oswego East

When: 7 p.m. Friday

Where: 1525 Harvey Rd., Oswego

Records: Glenbard East 1-0, Oswego East 1-0

Outlook: Glenbard East is looking for back-to-back wins for the first time since the first two weeks of 2010. The Wolves, which went 4-5 in 2012, are coming off a 43-35 win at Woodstock. Taking care of the ball will be essential for the Rams. Oswego East scored 28 points off of five Woodstock turnovers.

Montini at East St. Louis

When: 6:30 p.m. Friday

Where: 4901 State St., East St Louis

Records: Montini 1-0, East St. Louis 1-0

Outlook: Montini goes from one big school power to another. After getting past a five-time state champion in Maine South, the Broncos will make the four hour drive to East St. Louis, a seven-time state champion. The Flyers knocked off Kansas City power Rockhurst 19-14 in Week 1 and already have three seniors committed to Division I programs: defensive back Greg Taylor (Missouri), wide receiver Treevon Prater (Western Michigan) and linebacker Kyron Watson (Kansas)

Addison Trail at Hinsdale Central

When: 7:30 p.m. Friday

Where: Dickinson Field, 55th and Grant St., Hinsdale

Records: Addison Trail 0-1, Hinsdale Central 0-1

Outlook: The Blazers will be disappointed they couldn't do more against Glenbard South and it doesn't get any easier. The Red Devils are a perennial Class 8A playoff team and will be fired up after losing to Bolingbrook 17-6 in the opener. Central features two Big Ten recruits in offensive lineman Brian Allen (Michigan State) and tight end Ian Bunting (Michigan).

Willowbrook at Lyons Township

When: 7:30 p.m. Friday

Where: Bennett Field, 4900 Willow Springs Rd., Western Springs

Records: Lyons Township 0-1, Willowbrook 0-1

Outlook: Both teams will be looking to get on the winning track after losing winnable openers. LT lost to Warren 42-35 in three overtimes after taking a 21-0 lead into the fourth quarter. The Lions will receive a boost from the expected return of junior quarterback Tommy Fiedler. The Warriors fell to rival Glenbard East 28-21 in part due to two fourth quarter turnovers. The last time LT and Willowbrook met was 2002, when the Lions won 35-14.
