Weekend watch: Dukes, Knights looking for 2-0 starts

York vs. Proviso East

When: 7:30 p.m. Friday

Where: Clarence D. East Football Field, 355 W. St. Charles Road, Elmhurst

Records: York 1-0, Proviso East 0-1

Outlook: Now that the Dukes are on the board with a win they can move on to bigger things and a step up in opposition. Proviso East should provide more resistance than Clark, but the Pirates have lost 10 straight games. In the opener East lost to Nazareth 35-10.

IC Catholic at Kaneland

When: 7:30 p.m. Friday

Where: 47W326 Keslinger Rd., Maple Park

Records: IC Catholic 1-0, Kaneland 1-0

Outlook: IC opened renovated Plunkett Park with a comfortable win, but they are heading into the deep end now. IC travels to Kaneland, a traditionally strong Class 5A team that went 10-1 last fall. Kaneland, also the Knights, also beat a Chicago team in its opener, 27-7 over Brooks. IC's defense will have its hands full with Kaneland senior quarterback Drew David, who threw for 232 yards in the opener and is getting recruiting looks from Division I programs.
