Prep Roundup: Rams rebound with first soccer win

Glenbard East

The Rams bounced back from a 2-1 loss to Downers Grove South in the season opener with a 4-0 win over Proviso West on Tuesday. Hugo Aguilar scored East’s lone goal in the loss to DGS.

Addison Trail

After beginning the season with two losses, the Blazers picked up a 1-0 win over Curie on Tuesday thanks to a goal from Trey Smith and a 10-save shutout for Jonah Moran.


The Warriors are 0-3 heading into Saturday’s match at the Addison Trail Invite. After losing to Maine West and Illiana Christian earlier in the invite, Willowbrook fell at Glenbard West 1-0 on Wednesday.


The Dukes opened the season with a 3-0 loss at the hands of Conant in the opener of the Lake Park Invite on Aug. 29. York also lost to Huntley 3-0 on Tuesday.

Timothy Christian

A 4-0 win over Lisle started the season the right way for the Trojans. Tyler Vlasak, last year’s leading scorer, netted twice. Christian Bravo and Jon Cuomo also scored. Over the weekend Timothy traveled to Peoria Christian for a tournament and returned with a 1-1-1 record. The Trojans beat Chicago Christian 3-1, tied Peoria Christian 2-2 and lost to St. Thomas Moore 4-3.


Glenbard East

The Rams took third place out of four teams at the Ram Scramble Invite at Glendale Lakes Golf Course on Aug. 29. Glenbard South won the invite by shooting 6-under-par. Glenbard East was 3-under.


The Broncos edged past Chicago Christian 160-164 in a Suburban Christian dual match on Wednesday. Montini is now 4-1 in duals on the season.


A 166-251 West Suburban Gold win over Proviso East on Tuesday gave Willowbrook its third straight dual win. Michael Lev was the medalist by shooting a 40.


The Dukes opened West Suburban Silver play with a dual match win over Downers Grove North on Tuesday. Jordan Less and Will Gunst each shot 36 to medal in the 152-163 win.

IC Catholic

The Knights have had an up and down start to the season, but Anthony Clementi has been a bright spot. He put up team best scores of 44 in a loss to Chicago Christian and a 45 in a loss to Francis Parker. Grant Hennessy carded a 37 in a win over St. Joseph.


St. Viator

Addison resident Dana Gattone committed to play golf for the University of Illinois next fall.


The Dukes split the first four matches of the season. After losing to Hinsdale South, York beat Addison Trail 168-192 on Aug. 28 with Meg Grasse scoring a 36. The next day York split a triangular match, losing to Maine South and beating Willowbrook. Megan Backman carded a 40. On Tuesday the Dukes lost to Loyola 148-167 despite a 37 from Kerri Carlquist.


Glenbard East/Willowbrook

The Rams topped the neighboring Warriors 6-1 in a dual on Wednesday. Freshman Priscilla Palermo has stepped in at No. 1 singles and won her match 6-0, 6-0.


York is 2-1 on the season with dual wins over Batavia and Wheaton Warrenville South. On Tuesday the Dukes dropped a 4-3 match to Homewood-Flossmoor. Annie Rivera is 2-1 at No. 1 singles and the No. 1 doubles team of Blaire Porter and Angela Avgerinos have the same record.

Timothy Christian

After dropping a 4-3 match to Lisle on Aug. 28 the Trojans rebounded with two wins. Timothy beat Elk Grove 6-1 the next day. The No. 1 doubles team of Annika Zeilstra and Sarah Dirkge won in straight sets. On Tuesday the Trojans beat Walther Lutheran 5-0.
