DOWNERS GROVE – The Family Shelter's 7th annual Run-Walk is set for Oct. 17 at Downers Grove North High School.

The 10K/5K run-walk is designed to raise awareness of domestic violence awareness month in October and also raise funds to help individuals affected by domestic violence move toward a safer future.

With this year's theme "Be a Hero for Hope," participants can come dressed as their favorite hero or heroine. New this year — runners and walkers are encouraged to grow or manufacture a mustache to help raise awareness and funds to support Family Shelter's mission.

K-Hits 104.3 FM will provide entertainment.

Children are invited to join in the Kids' One-Mile Fun Run and other activities.

And with Halloween around the corner, children can come dressed as their favorite hero, with prizes for the best costumes.

Mustache fun begins at 7 p.m. Oct. 25 with a special pre-race rally at Mullen's Bar & Grill, Lisle, that will feature food and drink specials and the music of the Tres Mustache Band. Registration is not required for the Mullen's event.

The race is Cara-certified and professionally timed by Race Time. Awards will be given for individual performance, individual and team fundraising and best costumes. To register, visit: www.familyshelterservice.org
