DOWNERS GROVE – The Downers Grove Park District will host its inaugural home-style chili cook-off, the Chilympics, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 28 in Fishel Park, 1036 Grove St.
The event is sanctioned by the International Chili Society and the Downers Grove winner will receive $600 and advance to the World Finals in California in October to compete for a grand prize.
Participants and spectators can enjoy beer, food vendors and live music by Billy Croft and the 5-Alarm and SODA.
This contest is open to all ages.
Cash prizes will be awarded to first, second and third place winners.
There will be a People’s Choice competition open to the public taking place at 2 p.m.
The cost for People’s Choice is $5 for three tastings.
The cost to enter Chilympics is $55, which includes a $20 membership fee to ICS and a $35 Park District registration fee. Competitors must fill out all required applications online prior to September 13 at: http://www.dgparks.org/Recreation/Chilympics.html
