LISLE – Unique jewelry, painted wheelbarrow planters and colorful sidewalk chalk drawings will soon be displayed at Community Park as artists of all ages and talent levels gather for a new event.

The Lisle Park District will host Art in the Park from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Community Park Bandshell, 1825 Short St.

Residents will have the opportunity to purchase various pieces of artwork, participate in a sidewalk chalk art competition and bid in an auction of 21 wheelbarrow planters. Food and beverages will also be available for purchase, and admission and parking will be free.

Park District Administrative Assistant and Event Coordinator Wendy Nadeau, who is coordinating the event, said she launched the event to bring community art projects and outdoor art to the park.

“It’s going to be a fun community event,” Nadeau said. “It’s a great cause and you can get great art for your home at the same time.”

Proceeds from the event will be donated to Lisle Partners for Parks, which offers scholarships for families who otherwise could not afford to participate in recreation programs, contributes to the beautification of parks and protection of natural resources, supports and enhances community programs and promotes recreational opportunities.

Artwork for sale at the event will include photography, drawings, paintings, basket weaving, pottery and jewelry, Nadeau said.

Residents of all ages will be able to participate in a sidewalk chalk art competition, called “Chalk-It!”

Age groups for the contest are kindergarten through second grade, third through fifth grade, sixth through eighth grade, ninth through 12th grade and college and older. Nadeau said participants can begin decorating at noon and judging will take place at 3 p.m. Prizes will be rewarded to winners of each age group.

The fee to participate in the contest is $5, and residents are required to bring their own chalk. Registration forms are available at lisleparkdistrict.org/artinthepark. Residents can also register from 11 a.m. to noon at the event.

The auction of wheelbarrow planters will only be available the day of the event. Various Lisle businesses, organizations and groups are sponsoring the wheelbarrows.
