Nazareth 35, Proviso East 12: The Roadrunners had little trouble beating Proviso East on Saturday in their opener for the second straight year. Last season, Naz beat the Pirates to a similar 37-14 score.

The road win was fueled by a pair of first half touchdown passes by senior quarterback Jake Bartels. Bartels found Julian Love and Kevin Jackson for scores in the second quarter after Michael Masterson opened the scoring in the first quarter.

Naz took a 21-0 lead into halftime and cruised to the victory.

Fenwick 63, St. Joseph 0: In a matchup between nearby Catholic League schools, Fenwick from the White division easily got past the Chargers from the Red.

Friar senior running back Robert Spillane needed just six carries to find the end zone three times Saturday night in the win at Morton West. Charlie Emmons had two rushing touchdowns and Grant Miller and Pat Donahue ran for one score each. Gino Cavalieri hit Ryan Smith for a 72-yard touchdown for the only passing score of the game.

St. Joe enters Catholic Red play at Leo next week while Fenwick heads to Dallas to take on Texas power Bishop Lynch, also nicknamed the Friars.
