Wheaton Warrenville South comes from behind, stuns Glenbard West
WHEATON – Wheaton Warrenville South coach Ron Muhitch talked all summer long about bringing the pride back after the Tigers failed to qualify for the playoffs in 2012.
On Saturday night, his team did just that.
Overcoming a 14-3 halftime deficit, Wheaton Warrenville South prevailed by a 17-14 margin over defending Class 7A champion Glenbard West after quarterback Ryan Graham found the end zone from 1 yard out on a fourth-down play with 4:59 remaining in the fourth quarter.
The Hilltoppers had one last opportunity but were snuffed on their own fourth-and-1 situation at the Tigers' 35-yard line with 40 seconds left.
Wheaton Warrenville South had pulled to within 14-10 on the first play of the fourth quarter via a 47-yard touchdown strike from Graham to Keishawn Watson.
The visitors took a 7-0 lead on a 55-yard pass from Drew Vogg to Scott Andrews in the opening quarter. After a 28-yard field goal from Evan Jakubowski sliced the margin to 7-3, Andrews scored on a run from 4 yards out late in the second quarter.
