WESTERN SPRINGS – It was all going according to plan for Lyons Township until the Lions and Warren put up four fingers to signify the start of the fourth quarter.

The Blue Devils scored 21 unanswered points in the final quarter to force overtime and eventually beat the host Lions 42-35 in three overtimes on Saturday.

“They’re an 8A playoff team, they’re not going to go away” said LT coach Kurt Weinberg. “Just because you got somebody down 21-0 doesn’t mean anything. That’s hopefully a lesson we learn.”

The Lions took the lead in the second quarter on a four-yard touchdown run by Leonard Ross (21 carries for 96 yards, 1 TD). Senior quarterback Brent Moskiewicz, playing for Tommy Fiedler who sat out the game, threw touchdowns to Marcell Kellum and Trevon Woods to extend the lead.

The Blue Devils scored on all three fourth quarter possessions while LT’s offense didn’t reach Warren territory. Jalen Powe ran for two TDs in the fourth.

In the overtimes, Warren had the ball first all three times and scored a touchdown each possession. Maxwell Sorby ran in for two of them.

Moskiewicz ran in from one-yard out in the first OT and connected with Matt Mrazek, who also had two interceptions, for a 10-yard TD in the second OT.

In the third OT, Moskiewicz (12-for-18, 182 yards passing, 4 total TD) fumbled near the 5-yard line to give the Blue Devils the victory.

LT (0-1) will host Willowbrook Friday at 7:30 p.m.
