CICERO – Two men posing as city workers stole $800 from a man in the 4900 block of West 24th Street Aug. 27.

Police said the victim responded to a knock at door and was met by the two men who said they were from the "Water Department" and were there to check to see if the water was running.

The victim allowed them in and they requested he turn the faucets on in the house. They were in the house for about one hour when the victim said there was no longer any response from them as he was upstairs talking to them while they were downstairs.

He told police he then went downstairs and found the men missing, having exited through the rear door. The victim then discovered that $800 in cash was gone.

A witness observed the two men leave in a blue older model SUV.
