BROOKFIELD – The Brookfield Conservation Commission is planning a day of celebration of Salt Creek on Sept. 14.

Anyone is welcome to join members of the commission from 12:30 to 4 p.m. at the Kiwanis Park picnic pavilion for a day full of activities.

Participants can take a 30-minute leisurely paddle on Salt Creek, interact with reptiles from the Chicago Herpetological Society and view fish commonly found in the creek. A canoe paddling demonstration will also take place at 12:30 p.m.

The event is free.

Participants interested in joining in for a canoe ride should arrive as close to the event’s start time as possible. According to the commission, the spots are limited and they tend to fill up quickly. Children must be at least 3 years old to ride in a canoe and all minors must be accompanied by an adult.

Kiwanis Park is located behind the Brookfield Village Hall, 8820 Brookfield Ave.

For more information about the event, call 708-485-2152.
