Teen who drowned in quarry identified as Bolingbrook HS student
BOLINGBROOK – A 17-year-old Bolingbrook teen drowned Wednesday night while swimming with two other boys in a quarry, according to the Bolingbrook Police Department.
The victim has been identified as Bolingbrook High School student Javier Vera, according to the Will County Coroner and Valley View School District. The coroner will conduct an autopsy and the cause of death will be announced at a later date.
The three 17-year-old Bolingbrook teens entered the quarry, 1421 W. 135th St., at about 7:30 p.m. and began swimming laps across a section of the water-filled quarry, according to police. Shortly after, Vera began to struggle, and in spite of the other boys' attempts to save him, he went under the water and did not resurface, police said.
