VILLA PARK – With just four returners on the squad, Willowbrook’s girls volleyball team will try to learn on the fly with a young team.

The Warriors have three freshmen on the varsity roster and just three seniors. Those three seniors, Joanna Conley, Michelle Herz and Maggie McNamara, were all key contributors a year ago.

Conley had 214 digs and 64 kills a year ago but will be switching to outside hitter after playing mostly as a libero. Herz smacked down 77 kills. McNamara had 68 kills and 24 blocks. Junior setter Kelsey Linnig is also back after dishing out 302 assists a year ago.

Three incoming hitters will try to boost the attack. Freshman Jamie Chiapetta, sophomore Danielle McNamara and junior Mia Railing will help spread the offense among several players.

“We have a very young team this year,” said coach Sue Bower, who is entering her 10th year. “However, we do have a core of the four returning players that have had court experience. We are hoping to build on a strong defensive foundation.”
