Volleyball Preview: Potential there for young Blazers

ADDISON – Catching perennial conference powers Downers Grove South and Hinsdale South will be tough, but Addison Trail has a young team that will hope to show its potential throughout the season.

The Blazers have two key seniors in Christina Capuani, who led the team in assists and aces last season, and outside hitter Juliana Selvaggi, who is moving to the outside after playing in the middle last fall. Sophomore Nina Capuani is another returner. She was second on the team in kills in 2012.

Defensive specialist Abby Meinen is another senior who makes for three on the roster. Four underclassmen join the roster including sophomore Jessica Mell, who joined the varsity team in the second half of her freshman year.

Freshman Sarah Petrbok and sophomore Nicole Pudlo are part of the potential that has head coach Dan Styler excited about the future of this group.

“We have a dynamic group of attackers that jump well and are athletic,” Styler said. “It helps having multiple setters on our team that have experience running the offense.”

The young Blazers are struggling to settle in so far this season. So far AT is 0-3 with losses to Lake Park, Glenbard South and St. Charles North.
