Fort Hood shooter receives death sentence for Army base killings that included Bolingbrook native
BOLINGBROOK – A military court sentenced Nidal Malik Hasan to death Wednesday for the 2009 mass shooting that killed 13 people, including Bolingbrook native Michael Pearson, at Fort Hood Army post in Texas.
On Friday, Hasan, 42, an American-born Muslim and military psychiatrist, was convicted of 13 counts of premeditated murder and 32 counts of attempted murder. He now faces death by lethal injection for the 2009 massacre in which he also injured 31 other people at the Texas base.
Pearson graduated from Bolingbrook High School in 2006, and enlisted in the Army about a year before the shooting.
