GLEN ELLYN – Sandra Pihos, a current state representative, announced Tuesday her candidacy for the 48th District. She was first elected to the General Assembly in 2002.
In her candidacy announcement, Pihos, R-Glen Ellyn, proposed a four-part plan to help restore Illinois' economy. This proposal focuses on reforming the state's pension system, reducing government spending, creating new jobs and developing quality education and workforce opportunities.
"It is no secret that Illinois government is simply not working," Pihos said in a news release. "The political hierarchy is entrenched in gridlock, unwilling to work together for the common good. Rather than perpetuating this fight, I will utilize my experience in working across the aisle to address our problems that require bi-partisan solutions."
Pihos is a 41-year resident of Glen Ellyn. She taught elementary and middle school before becoming a high school guidance counselor. She later served for 10 and a half years on the Glenbard District 87 Board of Education, and ended her service as board president. She is also a small business owner.
House District 48 includes Lombard, Wheaton, Glen Ellyn, Downers Grove, Lisle, Oakbrook Terrace and Villa Park. Pihos will run in the March 2014 primary against Peter Breen, R-Lombard.
