Livingston selects 35 residents for La Grange 2020 task force

LA GRANGE – Village President Tom Livingston has named 35 residents to the La Grange 2020 Task Force, a panel he created to advise the Village Board on topics including economic development, infrastructure, public safety and parking.

Livingston announced at Monday’s Village Board meeting that Diane Gormely-Barnes, a principal planner for engineering firm HNTG Corporation, would chair the task force, which will meet for the first time at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 18 at Village Hall.

Meetings for the task force are open to the public, but residents must hold comments for Village Board meetings.

More than 100 residents applied to be part of the panel. Livingston said he did not know most of the residents he selected before the application process.

The group will meet monthly through May 2013 and conclude by presenting a report to the Village Board.

“Some of the ideas will be good, but unaffordable," Livingston said. "Some may cause the board to lower or elevate certain priorities. Some will reaffirm that we are on a course we should be taking or continue. Either way we expect this group to … reach for the future.”

Trustee David McCarty encouraged members of the task force to talk with their neighbors about issues at hand in order to reach a more representative consensus.

“I think La Grange is genuinely at a crossroads,” McCarty said in supporting the creation of the task force. “ … I think the commission could be critical in making sure we stay on a successful path.”
