I was just thinking the other day about how great it is to drive up to a local shop, hop out of our car, run in, purchase something that we need and be on our way.
While making purchases online can be convenient, there’s really nothing like being able to get the item or items right now – and when it comes to clothing and other similar merchandise, to try it on to be sure it’s what you really had in mind.
Did you know that when you purchase something locally the sales taxes you pay help support Addison’s municipal services to you? Another good reason to shop locally when you can is that the success of small business depends on sales to keep their doors open – and be there for you when you need to make those immediate purchases.
As the Chamber of Commerce, we try to support our members by offering a variety of opportunities to advertise their products and services, to network and interface with other area business people and attend events with speakers who discuss matters which are important to them both professionally and personally. The next few months will offer several such opportunities, where non-members are also welcome.
As a service to the community, we are passing the word along that Senator John Cullerton will host a job fair on Sept. 18 at The Odeum from 10 to 11 a.m. for veterans only, and from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. for all other job seekers.
Our September breakfast event on Sept. 20 at Alta Villa Banquets, sponsored by AT&T, will host Illinois legislators Senator Cullerton, Senator Don Harmon, Rep. Dennis Reboletti and Rep. Kathleen Willis beginning at 7:30 a.m.
On Oct. 5 our third annual Cruzin’ on Lake Street Classic Car Show will be held in the Marcus Cinema parking lot on Lake Street. On Oct. 15, we will join other area chambers at a multi-chamber luncheon with Illinois Treasurer Dan Rutherford at Bloomingdale Golf Club. Lastly, on Oct. 23 we will partner with numerous other area chambers of commerce at the business-to-business EXPO.
All events require reservations, in order for us to plan appropriately. Events such as luncheons require a fee – chamber members can attend at a reduced rate. To obtain more information about any of our events, or to reserve, please contact us at 630-543-4300 or by e-mail at firstname.lastname@example.org – we look forward to hearing from you.
