High temperatures forecasted for Tuesday, Downers Grove offers cooling centers

DOWNERS GROVE – The National Weather Service issued a Special Weather Statement regarding high temperatures expected Tuesday.

Temperatures are forecast to climb into the mid- to upper-90s.

The combination of the unusually hot temperatures so late in the summer, along with moderate humidity levels, could result in heat indices reaching or exceeding 100 degrees, according to the National Weather Service

The village of Downers Grove reminded residents to be aware of the signs and symptoms of heat-related illness.

Cooling centers are available at from 8 a.m to 8 p.m. on weekdays and 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on weekends at the Downers Grove Park District Recreation Center, 4500 Belmont Road.

The Lincoln Center, 935 Maple Ave., is available as a cooling center from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays, and from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturdays.

The Downers Grove Public Library, 1050 Curtiss St., also offers itself as a cooling center from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on weekdays, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.

From 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays both Village Hall, 801 Burlington Ave., and the Police Department, 825 Burlington Ave., are cooling centers.
