Girls volleyball preview: LT dealing with injuries
LA GRANGE – Last year Lyons Township’s girls volleyball team started just one senior and failed to win a regional for the first time since 2003. The Lions are hoping to capitalize on last year’s youth by bringing in more experience this season.
Unfortunately, they will have to overcome some injuries first. Junior setter Hannah Juley, who is committed to Wisconsin, hurt her foot in the first week of practice and is expected to be out until mid-to-late October. Senior outside hitter Catherine King, who was second on the team in kills last fall, tore her ACL playing soccer this summer and will miss the entire season.
“Everybody has got to be willing to play some different positions so we can get the best players on the floor,” said LT coach Joann Pyritz.
Junior returner Ariah Palter is likely to fill in for Juley until she returns. The Lions will have to adjust to Palter quickly and then readjust to Juley once she returns.
“It will be tricky,” Pyritz said. “Just as we have to adapt to a couple other setters that are not normally setters for ourselves, adapting back to Hannah ... will be tough.”
