WHAT TO WATCH

MORE HANDS ON DECK: Playing most of their games a year ago with a roster size in the 30s, the Raiders have seen that number jump to 53 at the start of the 2013 season. The increased depth will limit the number of two-way players and should keep the team fresher late in games.

"We have more depth than we've ever had," coach Jeremy Cordell said.

GETTING OFFENSIVE: Big things are expected out of an offensive unit that brings back six starters, including Ryan Sadkowski, Joe Kramer and Zak Georgitsis on the offensive line. Returning QB Alex Jeske is in charge of the spread offense which also features running back Zach Smith and wideout Clark Gary.

"We've got seniors who are returners and they have spent time in our scheme," coach Jeremy Cordell said. "From last year to this year, they have come a long way and they are still getting better and better."

YOUNG VETERANS: Though the Raiders' defense might feature only three or four seniors, that group does have experience as well as five returning starters. With speed and a physical presence, this unit could turn out to be Glenbard South's best in recent years.

"We have a lot of juniors and a couple of sophomores in the mix," coach Jeremy Cordell said. "We don't have a lot of seniors but at least six guys have varsity experience."

COACH'S QUOTE

"They are a physical group, one of the more physical groups I've had. And this senior class, they are the first group to have been through the whole way since I've been here. They understand the expectations and culture."Jeremy Cordell Raiders head coach
