WESTMONT – With the high school football season kicking off Friday, teams across the state will be taking the field with one goal in mind — make it to the state finals Thanksgiving weekend. The players and coaches at Westmont believe they have the pieces in place to do just that.

After nearly three decades leading the program at Riverside Brookfield High School and two years as the offensive coordinator at Fenton, Otto Zeman takes the reins for the Sentinels. Fans should expect a new-look offense.

"I think it's safe to say we're definitely going to throw it more than we run it," Zeman said. "I was able to work with them all summer. Everybody is doing a great job."

QB RETURNS: Tim Doll guided the Sentinels' run-heavy offense last season and is back under center this year. Now he'll be asked to pass more than he ever has before, but he says he's ready for it.

"I'm used to it now," Doll said. "At first I was a little hesitant because, you know, it's a new coach and he said he's going to run a five-wide, so you're a little curious. But after [working on it] all summer, I'm more comfortable with it. Honestly, it's pretty simple."

PLAYOFF PLAN: With larger numbers on the roster, plenty of senior leadership and a new, up-tempo offense, this could be the season the Sentinels break a six-year drought without a playoff berth.

"A lot of us are seniors, so for a lot of us it's our last time to play so we have to work hard every minute and keep pushing ourselves," Danny LoGiurato said. "I would love to go to the playoffs, especially for Westmont because that's something rare, so that would be awesome. I think we have an awesome chance this year."
