WESTERN SPRINGS – The Western Springs Fire Department has received a $64,000 grant from the Department of Homeland Security for thermal imaging cameras.

The grant, secured by U.S. Rep. Dan Lipinski, will allow the village to purchase four to six thermal imaging cameras to help firefighters better see flames and trapped victims in smoke-filled rooms. The grant will also be used to buy specialized washing machines and dryers to clean gear that has been used during responses to fires and incidents involving hazardous materials, according to a news release on Lipinksi's government website.

The grant is issued through the Federal Emergency Management Agency's Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program under the Department of Homeland Security.
