The DuPage County Crime Stoppers program gives residents the ability to anonymously report crime intelligence that doesn't require immediate attention to law enforcement, according to a DuPage County Crime Stoppers news release.
Crime Stoppers was formed in 1991 by the DuPage County Sheriff's Office and other county law enforcement chiefs, but is now an independent group, according to the organization's web site.
The Crime Stoppers program encourages residents to report potential criminal activity. The group has decided its mission in 2013-14 will be to focus on armed violent offenders and illegal firearms.
Residents with tips to provide can send a text message to CRIMES (274637) with the keyword DUPAGE followed by text, visit the group's website at dupagecrimestoppers.com or call the 24/7 hotline at 800-222-8477. All tipsters are guaranteed anonymity.
