Downers Grove hosts ribbon cutting for reopening of Washington Street

DOWNERS GROVE – The village of Downers Grove hosted a ribbon cutting Friday to reopen Washington Street between Burlington and Maple avenues following a large construction project.

The effort replaced about 1,485 feet of water mains and 910 feet of storm sewer, according to the village.

It also reconstructed five sanitary manholes along with failed curb and gutter sections. The project also resurfaced and striped the road and fixed some sections of sidewalk. Curb extensions were added to the intersection of Washington and Curtiss streets. The crosswalk was also improved.
