Danada horses on a diet with 'low-cal hay'

Though swimsuit season is nearing its end for the humans of DuPage County, the horses at Danada Equestrian Center are starting a new diet to slim down, according to a news release from the Forest Preserve District of DuPage county

The horses will be fed a special low-calorie hay after a recent review of Danada's operations reported that, while the herd was healthy, a few of the horses were overweight, the release said.

An equine nutritionist consulted on the purchase of the all-grass hay that has fewer calories than other blends, but still includes the roughage and nutrition horses need.

The center also plans to reconfigure the feeding stations this winter so that members of the herd with bigger appetites won't be able to crowd out the more timid horses when dinner time comes around.
