RIVERSIDE – A 26-year-old Riverside woman was struck in the head by a man who appeared out of the woods along Ogden Avenue at Miller Road late Thursday evening, according to police.

Around 11:20 p.m., the woman saw a man approach her right side before striking her in the head, causing her to fall and breaking the strap on her purse. The man fled the scene without taking anything.

The victim was taken to MacNeal Hospital, where she was treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Police immediately set up a search for the offender and contacted the Cook County Sheriff's Department for assistance with a bloodhound canine. Officers conducted a search of the wooded area and residential streets until 2:30 a.m., but didn't find anyone matching the victim's description of the offender.

The victim is continuing to work with police to advance the investigation.
