Police: Three men charged after attempted burglary of gun store

LYONS – The Lyons Police Department announced Thursday that officers arrested and charged three men who were allegedly attempting to burglarize a gun shop earlier this week.

Police were called to Midwest Gun, 8565 Plainfield Road, at about 11:30 p.m. Tuesday to respond to an activated burglar alarm.

Upon arrival, police reported seeing three men running westbound from the store. Officers followed the men on foot and were able to take one in custody. A second suspect was arrested in an alley in the 4200 block of Konrad Avenue. A third suspect was located in the backseat of a car parked in the 4100 block of Rose Avenue.

Arrested were Deshawn McKinney, 25, of the 114200 block of Calumet Avenue, Chicago; Samuel Coleman, 19, of the 5700 block of Taney Place, Merrillville, Ind.; and Jeremy McKinzi, 21, of the 5800 block of Taft Place, Merrillville, Ind.

All three men were charged with criminal trespass to property, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.

McKinney was additionally found to be wanted on a warrent from police in Calumet City for obstruction.
