Man sentenced after stealing more than $290,000 from Oak Brook employer

OAK BROOK – DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin announced that Shaun Horan, 32 of 1673 Blackwell Lane, Aurora, has been sentenced to 54 months in the Illinois Department of Corrections for stealing more than $290,000 from his former employer, Resource One, in Oak Brook.

On June 19, Horan entered a blind plea of guilty to one count of theft over $100,000, a Class 1 felony, in front of Judge Robert Kleeman.

From 2007 through 2011, Horan worked as an accountant at Resource One. During this four-year period, Horan wrote himself 96 unauthorized checks totaling $291,237.23 from company accounts. In an attempt to conceal the thefts, Horan either deleted or changed entries in the company’s books.

Horan’s scheme came to light when the comptroller of the company noticed that Horan had received a check from a company account other than the payroll account. Following this discovery, Resource One conducted an internal audit which exposed Horan’s thefts.
