WHEATON – Wheaton North might not return a lot of starters on offense this fall but the ones they do return are major contributors. Quarterback Clayton Thorson and wide receiver Matt Biegalski are back, but virtually every play starts with returning starting center Jesse Dean.

Schmid: Was it a good offseason for the team?

Dean: Yes it was. Everyone was in the weight room and the summer went well. And we didn't have a lot of injuries which was good.

Schmid: What do you take away from the very successful 2012 season?

Dean: Just the experience of playing all of those good teams. The Glenbard West game [Class 7A quarterfinal] was a good experience for all of us. And the senior leadership last year was really good, they taught us well.

Schmid: Did the way the quarterfinal ended [a 3-0 loss] stick with you guys or did you quickly clean the slate?

Dean: You can't really let that linger. It's a new season, a new team. We have moved on past that.

Schmid: Is it a good feeling to have Clayton Thorson back under center?

Dean: I love having him back there as the QB. He is a good leader on our team and he runs the offense very well.

Schmid: What have you seen from the defense so far?

Dean: They look good. They are flying to the ball really well. They really get after it.

Schmid: Do you guys welcome a tough schedule?

Dean: We love it, especially being in the DVC. We love playing the good teams. And down the road, it definitely helps us. It prepares us for the playoffs and also helps us for the DVC schedule.

Schmid: How would you best describe the senior class, which has had a lot of success?

Dean: Just our heart and how much we want it and how hard we work in the offseason. And also how much of a family we are, we are really close.

Schmid: What is the feeling like with the 2013 season set to kickoff?

Dean: We are very excited. I think everyone in the state is excited for the first game.
