Glenbard South's Gary: Outright MSC title a goal for Raiders

GLEN ELLYN – Clark Gary is one of 11 returning starters for Glenbard South. The senior is back at wide receiver for the Raiders, who are searching for their sixth playoff appearance in the last seven years. He totaled 1,113 all-purpose yards and nine touchdowns in 2012.

Schmid: How did the offseason and summer go?

Gary: It has gone really well. We did well in the 7-on-7s and we've put in a lot of work. We have a lot of starters coming back from last year and everyone knows what they are doing. We've been able to get off to a running start.

Schmid: With a strong group of returners back on offense, including quarterback Alex Jeske, are you excited about what that unit can do?

Gary: I'm really excited. Alex has really developed his passing game and Zach Smith, he is a running back that can score on any play. We have a lot of really good weapons.

Schmid: What have you seen from the younger defensive group?

Gary: They have definitely come a real long way. It's a lot tougher to score on them now. They have picked it up fast, especially for being so young.

Schmid: With more guys out for the team, how important is that increased depth?

Gary: The depth will help a ton. Nobody is starting both ways, last year I think we had four guys going both ways. It keeps you fresh and we will be strong through the whole game. It really helps a lot.

Schmid: How important is a fast start to the season?

Gary: It's huge. We haven't won the opener in six years so that is one of the team goals this year [vs. Addison Trail]. It would set the tone for the whole year and say that Glenbard South is ready to play.

Schmid: After tying for the conference title a year ago, is the outright championship also a major goal?

Gary: That is another of our team goals, to win the outright title. We feel we have a good chance with a lot of guys coming back but we aren't going to take anybody lightly. That Elmwood Park game [a 20-19 loss last year] is still on our minds.
