Combat journalist to speak at First Division Museum Sept. 4

WHEATON – Combat journalist Jackie Spinner, who spent time in Iraq and Afghanistan working for the Washington Post, will be speaking Sept. 4 at the First Division Museum in Wheaton, according to a museum news release.

Spinner will address her experience as a woman working as a journalist in war zones and violent areas, including her recent coverage of the Arab Spring for Slate and the Christian Science Monitor.

Spinner's other professional accomplishments include being awarded a Fullbright Scholarship in Oman in 2010-11, authoring a memoir titled "Tell Them I Didn’t Cry: A Young Journalist’s Story of Joy, Loss and Survival in Iraq" and serving as an assistant professor of journalism at Columbia College in Chicago, according to the release.

Doors open to the free event at 6:45 p.m. and the presentation begins at 7:30 in the Cantigny Visitor's Center Theater. For more information, call 630-260-8187.
