Letter: What's in a name: ale, brew or beer?
To the Editor:
The tagline for the cover story of today's Wheaton Leader, "Wheaton Brew Fest Returns" is slightly inaccurate.
Last year was the first year there was a beer festival in downtown Wheaton. It was called "Wheaton Ale Fest" and was organized and run by Brewfest Partners. My understanding is that the Wheaton Park District watched closely, took the idea, kicked out Brewfest Partners and changed the name slightly. Looks like it worked. I doubt that very many people noticed.
As far as the names of the festivals, it's a beer festival, not a brew festival (there's no brewing going on, not even coffee), though the beverages being sold are considered "brews". "Ale fest" isn't much better. That name suggests the exclusion of lagers and ciders (among other types of beverage), which were present at both festivals.
Regardless, both events were fun, and I hope they continue. Beer brewing at the event next year would be a great idea.
