DOWNERS GROVE – The Downers Grove Public Library Board of Trustees last week selected Shales McNutt Construction (SMC) as construction manager for the library’s upcoming renovation project.

The selection was made after an interview process and evaluation of qualifications at the Library Board’s Aug. 14 special meeting.

SMC serves northern Illinois and specializes in the construction needs of institutional, governmental, and industrial organizations. Recent projects include the Arlington Heights, Elgin, and Barrington public library renovations.

“The construction manager is responsible for taking the design as determined by the architects, the budget as determined by the board, and the project results as determined by the planning process, and bringing them all together for a successful project,” Library Director Rick Ashton said in a press release.

The $2.4 million project will reconfigure the library's interior, increasing the study and collaborative spaces and creating an expanded teen area among other changes that library officials say are demanded by modern users.
