BROOKFIELD – Brookfield police reported Tuesday afternoon they are investigating a fire in the 9500 block of Lincoln Avenue that occurred around 1 a.m. Tuesday morning as an arson.

Police said a resident was awoken after they heard a loud banging sound and discovered their front window was shattered and on fire. The resident put out the fire with a garden hose before police and fire personnel arrived on the scene. No injuries were reported.

Police believe someone threw a glass bottle filled with an unknown flammable substance at the double pane glass window. Only the exterior glass pane was broken and the fire did not spread into the residence.

Police said they have suspects and are currently working "strong leads" in the case.

They do not believe the act was random.
