It’s that time of year when all we can think about are school supplies and bus schedules. But let’s not forget to take time for fun!

As the kids get ready to begin another academic year, relieve that back to school pressure by going for a walk in the park, attending an event or performance, taking that last dip in the pool or dining out for lunch or dinner.

The Wheaton Park District can help you ease your way back into the school year.

Enjoy Shakespeare in the Park’s free performance of As You Like It at 7 p.m. Aug. 23 and 24 in Memorial Park. Register for the Safety City event on Aug. 24 and tour a fire truck, ride on the Safety City bikes and learn about bike safety.

Stop by Rice Pool and Water Park on Aug. 25 and treat yourself to a 25-cent ice cream in celebration of the pool’s 25th anniversary. Rice Pool will remain open until Sept. 2.

Play a round of golf at the Prairie Path Mini Golf Course open each day until dusk. Attend the Worldwide Day of Play Event at the Community Center on Sept. 21 and enjoy complimentary youth fitness classes, boot camp and a bounce house.

All of those things probably will make you hungry. Head to Arrowhead Restaurant and enjoy dinner with the family. Take advantage of the daily menu specials, including $5 burgers on Monday nights, fried chicken on Sundays and the kids 10 and under eat free with an adult entrée purchase on Wednesdays.

Wheaton has more than 52 parks to choose from, but be sure to try the zipline at Northside Park on West Street. It’s a blast!
