ELMHURST – A pair of Elmhurst Park District Abbey members protected their titles as reigning spelling champs this month.

Delores Kumnick and Carol Nelson competed against Lexington Square residents in a classic spelling bee. While Kumnick believed the last bee was easier, they managed to remain trophy holders in the ongoing rivalry.

"The last spelling bee wasn’t challenging enough,” Kumnick said.

The winning team plans to continue their winning streak at the next match in November. Both women have always been good spellers and have been spelling bee winners since grade school.

New spellers are always welcome. To join the next competition, call the Abbey at 630-993-8193.
