Buckson: There's a place for everyone at Westmont Library
Libraries have changed quite a bit since I was a young girl.
Visiting the stacks was a solemn event, mostly silent except for the gentle flipping of cards in the monstrous wooden catalog nearby. The library was an errand, a place you stopped on the way to the bank or grocery store.
Fast forward a couple of decades and the environment inside many libraries is very different. Sure, there are still people quietly studying in the adult area and carefully turning the pages of the day’s newspaper, but the overall feel of the library space has changed. It is now a destination, a place people go for socializing and entertainment as well as education.
