Athletes, community turn out for Woodridge Rotary's annual Mini Triathlon

WOODRIDGE – The Woodridge Rotary Club’s annual Mini Triathlon unfolded Sunday as more than 830 participants ran, biked and swam for fitness and a cause.

The event has become the club’s main annual fundraiser for the Rotary Club’s mission to provide service to others, promote integrity and advance world understanding, goodwill and peace through a fellowship of business, professional and community leaders.

The event grew to 830 athletes this year, up from 60 participants in its first year in 1999, according to Rotary member Susan McNeil-Marshall.

“It’s a family affair for many. It seems to go from one generation to the next,” McNeil-Marshall said. “And it makes people in Woodridge much more aware of the health aspect of training for something like this.”

The competition included men’s and women’s age categories as well as a race for kids.

She said her favorite part of the event is seeing the community join together.

“For me, people coming together for the community in a positive way is the best part,” McNeil-Marshall said. “And I feel the participants enjoy that part of it, too.”
