Let me take you to a place: your new magical space.

Trust me, it’s a place that will make your chest swell with community pride. Allow your mind to wander with me, through our Big Library Dream.

Picture yourself in a state-of-the-art laptop lounge, nestled in comfortable overstuffed furnishings with soft classical jazz and the scent of freshly brewed coffee suggesting a tranquility that wins a battle over mundane daily concerns and forces your escape.  Envision yourself enjoying magazines, newspapers and books in front of the warmth of a winter fire, and consider that you have most likely just happened upon the best place on earth.

Changing societal needs have dictated that libraries embrace a dual mandate to stay relevant – and this often presents itself as opposing interests.

That’s OK. At the Stickney-Forest View Public Library we love a challenge, and we have embarked on the planning stages of an ambitious renovation that balances both the need for quiet (for literary pleasure and work/study purposes) with the need for collaborative (often noisy) space for teaching computer classes, learning languages, Zumba, top notch children and adult programs.

And, if dreams really do come true, these renovations will even include maker spaces, where library users can create and record music, create videos or just about anything else – including objects made with a 3-D printer.

Over the coming months, there will be many ways for you to get involved with this process. I personally will be asking for your opinions and suggestions, because this is your library.

I encourage you to consider a financial sponsorship and participation in our Adopt a Space fundraising plan. Please participate in this dream, because our library and our community deserve a dream come true!

We had a total participation of 855 people enrolled in our Summer Reading Program, and a total program attendance of 3,336. With stats like that, it is quite clear that the Stickney-Forest View Public Library is a worthwhile investment!
