Letter: Reader sounds off on Trayvon Martin response
To the Editor:
I'm a 78-year-old man who writes occasionally to the Downers Grove Reporter when something bothers me.
Looks like Obama and Holder want to get involved, shame on them. All the hate from Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, NAACP, various black commentators and Hollywood nuts – black and white.
We Americans, black and white, will never get along as long as they preach hate.
George Zimmerman was called a white Mexican by a few blacks. George was found not guilty of the shooting of Trayvon Martin who was, I guess, at the wrong place at the wrong time.
I feel sorry for both parents. George and his family are in hiding. What kind of life will they have?
Now the hate mongers will try and convict if possible, stalking or discrimination, etc. I'm not saying Trayvon was a bad boy, but seeing George's wounds, I have some wonder what really happened.
The loss of life of so many blacks and whites is a shame.
I must be living in a dream. What I would like to see happen before I leave the good ole USA is for God-fearing blacks and whites who love our country, teach all the children from birth that love is colorless.
I was born in America. My heritage is Austrian-Croatian. America is first, never second.
Let's forget African, Mexican, Puerto Rican, Cuban, Chinese, Japanese, etc. Call yourselves Americans first, then your ancestry.
We should know our family history.
