Letter: Cronin lauds Sandack for SB494
Recently, Governor Pat Quinn signed landmark legislation that will enable DuPage County to consolidate smaller, inefficient layers of local government. Although narrow in scope, Senate Bill 494 was fiercely opposed by entrenched special interests that benefit from the current bureaucratic system.
Fortunately for the citizens of DuPage County, Representative Ron Sandack enthusiastically signed-on as Chief Co-Sponsor and worked tirelessly to ensure the bill's passage.
Previously, as mayor of Downers Grove, Ron Sandack was the only mayor to express support for the last major initiative I sponsored in Springfield – the reform of the DuPage Water Commission and the repeal of the commission's quarter cent sales tax (in 2016) that will save DuPage County taxpayers tens of millions of dollars annually.
During his brief tenure in Springfield, Representative Sandack has focused on making government more accountable and transparent to voters and has set an example as a public servant by declining state health insurance and legislator pension benefits.
I am grateful for Representative Ron Sandack's leadership and am proud that he represents the citizens of DuPage County in Springfield.
Dan Cronin, Chairman, DuPage County Board
