Girls golfers from across the area are on the course for the 2013 season. The season has just started, but the goal for individuals and teams throughout state is to make the trek to the Decatur area Oct. 18 to 19 for the Class A and AA state championship tournaments.

Lyons Township Lions

Conference: West Suburban SilverHome course: La Grange Country Club, 620 S. Brainard, La Grange2012 results: 9-1 dual meet record, 3rd in regional, 3rd in sectional, 6th in stateCoach: Brad Anderson

Top golfers:

Sarah Donahoe sr.

Melissa Marston jr.

Jameson Mitchell sr.

Ciara Rattana sr.

What to watch:

The Lions have qualified for state as a team for the past three years and have enough firepower back to make four straight a possibility.

Four of last fall’s top six are back, including top golfer, senior Ciara Rattana. Rattana is coming off a busy summer that featured top junior tournaments. She cracked the top 50 in state after shooting an 84 in the one-round tournament.

Sarah Donahoe will hope to recapture the magic of the 2012 state tourney, when she she a career-best 80 that tied her for 23rd place.

Melissa Marston and Jameson Mitchell are also returners in the lineup.

Riverside Brookfield Bulldogs

Conference: Metro SuburbanHome course: Fresh Meadow Golf Club, 2144 S. Wolf Road, Hillside2012 results: 0-12 dual meet record, 7th in regionalCoaches: Neil Dughetti and Mark Gouwens

Top golfers:

Alicia Heniger jr.

Marisa Jensen sr.

Michelle Morris jr.

Julia Roedel jr.

What to watch:

Armed with seven varsity returners, five of which have multiple years of varsity experience, RB hopes to make it to sectionals as a team.

After stepping up as regulars in the lineup as sophomores, juniors Alicia Heniger, Michelle Morris and Julia Roedel will look to make the next step. Those three and senior Marisa Jensen competed in the regional last year.

Senior Miranda Alvarez and sophomores Silvana Alvarez and Grace Watylyk also were returners.

Nazareth Roadrunners

Conference: East Suburban CatholicHome course: Meadowlark Golf Course, 11599 W 31st St., Hinsdale2012 results: 10-6 dual meet record, 1st in regional, 4th in sectionalCoach: Charlie Rohlf

Top golfers:

Annie Canent sr.

Anna Rafanelli sr.

Kasey Schaffer sr.

Maddie Waun sr.

What to watch:

The Roadrunners were one spot away from qualifying for state as a team last fall. Four of the top six golfers from Naz’s regional winning lineup are back so there is reason for optimism.

Kasey Schaffer will look to make it to state after surprisingly missing out last season. Schaffer emerged as Naz’s top golfer and was fourth in the Class A regional that Naz won.

Fellow seniors Annie Canent, Anna Rafanelli, Maddie Waun and Clarissa Calderon also should be contributors. Sophomore Molly McAuliffe could play a big role after earning her way onto the varsity team as a freshman.

Fenwick Friars

Conference: East Suburban CatholicHome course: Fresh Meadow Golf Club, 2144 S. Wolf Road, Hillside2012 results: 0-9 ESCC, 2nd in regional, 9th in sectionalCoach: Kitty Delany and Joseph Konrad

Top golfers:

Frankie Bell so.

Caroline Green sr.

Meredith Green sr.

What to watch:

Three returners are back from a Friar team that placed second in the Class AA St. Ignatius regional at Cog Hill last fall.

Two of the Top golfers: from that team, Liz Mavrogenes and Angelica Fuentes, are gone so there’s a big void at the top. Sophomore Frankie Bell is the most likely candidate to emerge as a top player. Seniors Caroline Green and Meredith Green also were in the top six last season.
