BOLINGBROOK – Area business and political leaders, as well as hospital dignitaries and staff, were on hand Wednesday for the official opening for the new Adventist Bolingbrook Hospital Wound Care Center.

About 200 people attended the ceremonial ribbon cutting, including Adventist Bolingbrook Hospital CEO Rick Mace, Bolingbrook Mayor Roger Claar, Wound Care Center Medical Director Dr. Anjum Owaisi and Lisa Reil of Healogics.

The state of the art wound care center features hyperbaric chambers, and doctors will now be able to routinely treat patients dealing with chronic wounds such as diabetic foot ulcers or arterial disease.

“We look at treating patients in a very holistic way and we look at it from multiple viewpoints,” Owaisi said.

The center will have medical personnel with expertise in a variety of areas to treat patients, she added.

Patients receiving hyperbaric oxygen treatment will enter a pressurized chamber which, over the course of about 90 minutes, will provide an oxygen-enriched atmosphere for them to breathe. Those higher levels of oxygen enter a patient’s blood stream and promote the healing of chronic wounds.

In addition to the two hyperbaric chambers, the center has four examination rooms to see patients. About 300 new patients will be treated in the wound care facility this year according to staff, and about 10 percent of those will receive hyperbaric treatment.

Healogics has partnered with Adventist Bolingbrook Hospital to provide services at the Wound Care Center.
